The Patriots began playing the league on Friday, wearing green uniforms and defeating four-time defending West Valley champion Granada Hills 9-3 in the first innings from Zion Waddell and Isaac Monterbio.
Monterbio also had a double, with Christian Martinez becoming three of them. Freshman Jordan Lindsay had two hits and two RBIs.
Freshman pitcher Carlos Acuna hit eight and walked four in three innings for Birmingham. Nathan Soto came in with peace of mind to pitch a scoreless inning of 3 1/3 and attacked the five of them giving up on one hit.
Max Szczech scored three hits, including two doubles for the Granada Hills. Luke Chau pitched four scoreless innings of relief after his team closed 6-3 late at 6-0.
Sun Valley Poly 9, Bell 4: Parrot handed Defending City Champion Bell (4-1) to his first defeat.
Sierra Canyon 7, Royal Camino 0: Grayson Garage finished with three hits, while Teoswaford, Digi Delgado and Michal Johnson each had two hits at the Sierra Canyon. Kingston Monette pitched four scoreless innings.
Calabasas 4, Chaminade 3: The Coyotes won on a walk-off wild pitch in seven innings. AJ Seidel RBI doubled it for Calabasas. Jack Keek had an RBI single. Robbie Morgan hit a two-run home run for Chaminard.
Dorado 1, Modena 0: Logan Steenburgen threw a complete game of hitting Six to lead El Dorado.
Foothill 2, Villa Park 0: Gavin Lauridsen had two runs singles in three innings, while Adam Ujiie pitched six scoreless innings for Foothill.
Mission Viejo 4, Fullerton 0: Aiden Chapuis pitched five scoreless innings, with Jacob Pauly having a home run and two RBIs for Diablo.
Edison 6, San Clemente 3: Kobe Kee had a 3 run double to lead the charger.
Arcadia 6, Muir 1: The Apache has been improved to 7-0. Tyler Swilling won, 2-0.
