The White House has rescinded the appointment of former Florida lawmaker Dr. David Weldon to lead the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The Senate Health Committee announced Thursday morning that it had cancelled a scheduled hearing on Weldon’s appointment due to withdrawal.
Those familiar with the issue that discussed internal deliberations on conditions of anonymity said the White House drew the nomination after it was revealed that Weldon had no confirmation vote.
Weldon was considered to be in close alignment with US Secretary of Health, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Weldon is also a prominent critic of the vaccine and CDC, promoting vaccines and monitoring safety.
Weldon will become the third Trump administration candidate to not attend the confirmation hearing. Previously, former US Congressman Matt Gaetz retracted from consideration of the Drug Enforcement Bureau’s Attorney General and Chad Chronister.
