Sports Report: USC's Waymond Jordan is ready to make his mark

: When he first began to spread the word, Mike Bennett figured that the film would speak for itself. Coach Escambia High was in the South Florida prep scene long enough to know what he was seeing from his new running back.

“He was amazing to see him run football for the first time,” Bennett said. He thought the scholarship offer would soon be rolled in.

I had similar expectations in Jordan. He told himself that since he first won football at the age of four, he would always play at the biggest stage in big school. He came to Escambia as a senior with that in mind.

But you’d think four years ago, in 2021, the same star potential, or for some reason, coaches from other colleges didn’t pay much attention to it.

Given where Jordan stands today, the top who will return to one of the nation’s top rushing offensives throughout the two weeks of the college football season will likely regret it now.

“Every coach in the country, I sent things,” Bennett said. “I mean, everyone. I sent it to everyone.”

Several smaller schools were keeping an eye on Jordan’s senior year at Escambia, rushing for 1,225 yards and 12 touchdowns. Some schools said he could walk. However, none of them extended the scholarship offer. Jordan couldn’t understand why.

Hutchinson Community College, a junior college in Hutchinson, Kansas, was one of the only places to give him the opportunity. Hutchinson was 1,000 miles from his hometown of Pensacola, a world away from major college football that he thought would play. However, the staff there were well-known to Escambia and they believed what they saw on Jordanian tapes.

NBA

: Early on a sultry Saturday morning, seven dozen riders lined up five and six riders, heading towards the narrow rocky trail, away from the 91 highway, towards the wilderness of Anaheim’s sturdy Plaster Canyon.

With white helmets and monotonous synthetic racing kits, the riders were more obscure mobs than their personal collections. However, one cyclist stood out when he was in the middle of a pack perched on the expensive Santa Cruz Bluel XL, with his legs higher than most people around him for reasons other than 6ft-7.

It should be noted that Miller was also a basketball hall of fame and that he seamlessly moved into his career as one of the sport’s most respected television analysts. He has achieved fame and fortune, and competes at the level that most people have achieved.

But the day before his 60th birthday he was about to walk his path along a 19-mile dangerous trail. And he couldn’t be happy as bike racing not only gave Miller a competitive outlet, but also provided a way to deal with issues that mattered to him.

“We see retired soccer, baseball and basketball players relying on golf, and that’s their bad guys,” he said. “My cycling is cycling.”

Rams

: I stole the show. He was a support player.

That was the story of the Houston Texans’ Over the Houston Star receiver.

No one complained.

Probably except for the fantasy football player who drafted Adams.

“It’s not the forefront of my mind,” Chuckling’s Adams said this week. “I know they think they do. I’m trying to win the game here, contribute when I can and make plays.”

Nakua needed stitching, caught 10 passes for 130 yards and brushed the cut above the eye. Adams, who made his Rams debut, caught four passes for 51 yards.

Charger

: I didn’t know if he was coming or going.

Exhausted to the point of collapse, he parked in the driveway of his Oakland Hills home, and temporarily allowed him to close his eyes. An hour? – Before shaking before waking at 4am in foggy panic. Was he just returned from work 24 hours a day with the Oakland Raiders, or was he supposed to be on his way home?

Here he was the first round pick from Michigan, a 15-year NFL veteran, and now the silver & black coaching groan, ready for anything asked.

“I always remember my hair going everywhere on his head,” recalls the receiver. “The veteran guys on the team were like, ‘Jimmy, you don’t need to do this, mate. There are other ways to make money, you don’t have to be here.’ He literally printed thesis and said, “It’s okay, that’s what you want to do in your life.”

angel

: Rookie pinch hitter Harry Ford drove on a winning run with a sacrifice fly in 12 innings before the Seattle Mariners defeated the Angels on Thursday night and moved to a tie with Houston at the top of Alwest.

For the Mariners, it was their second straight walk-off victory in the extlining. Leolivas completed the St. Louis Cardinals’ series sweep, hitting two-run homers in 13 innings on Wednesday night.

He began his 399th career home run, tied it 4-0 late in the second, 4-4, 4-4.

spark

: The lack of postseason competition made the season finale pointless.

It was my chance to avoid finishing on a lost record for the first time since 2020. It’s an opportunity for the Las Vegas ace to derail their 15-game winning streak while pushing the second seed in the playoffs. And above all, it’s a matter of pride.

But, like their seasonal goal of reaching the playoffs, the Sparks hadn’t reached their goal.

NBA

: The retired NBA player and former Harvard Westlakestar is undergoing treatment for a brain tumor, the NBA said in a statement released Thursday on behalf of Collins and his family.

“Jason and his family welcome your support and prayers and look after Jason’s health and well-being so please kindly seek privacy,” the league said.

Jaron, a 46-year-old native of Northridge, and twin brother Jason Collins, led Harvard Westlake to the state Division III title in 1996 and 1997, with the former being selected for both seasons. His 1,500 career rebounds were the CIF state record until 2010, when Joe Burton of Hemet West Valley finished his career with 1,721 rebounds.
