It takes inspiration from some of the best JRPGs ever made, but by blending it with a grounded story that’s as dark as it is hopeful, and as painful as it is beautiful, we’ve created an incredible experience that few games have matched before.
There are earth-shaking dangers at hand, but Expedition 33’s goal is not just to save humanity. Instead, it’s also about dealing with grief, an unknown future, and fear of failure. To avoid spoilers, let’s just say that a god-like figure known as the Painter draws a number on a monolith every year, and all humans above that age perish. This time, it’s up to people under 33 to stop this impending extinction.
The story alone is worth the time investment, but the inclusion of turn-based combat and top-of-the-line action game mechanics makes the gameplay even more impressive. Rather than sitting and watching your character perform combos, you also have to parry and dodge enemy attacks, and hold down buttons during attacks to increase your damage. You can’t relax while working. There is a mission to accomplish.
Honestly, it’s worth paying full price, but I can understand being worried about spending your hard-earned money on something you might not like.
