Jon Stewart’s biting satire may have upset his new bosses, but they took the plunge and extended the comedian’s run on Comedy Central until December 2026.

The channel’s parent company, Paramount, announced Monday that Stewart will continue to host “The Daily Show” on Monday nights and serve as executive producer until the end of next year.

Members of the show’s news team will continue to share hosting duties Tuesday through Thursday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Jon Stewart continues to elevate the genre he created. His return is a continued commitment to the sharp comedy and sharp commentary that define it.” daily show,Comedy Central manager Ali Pearce said in a prepared statement. “We are proud to support John and our incredible news team.”

Stewart’s contract was re-extended about four months after Paramount, the parent company of “The Daily Show,” announced it would discontinue its late-night show after the season. The cancellation comes days after Colbert slammed the $16 million settlement Paramount agreed to pay President Trump to end a lawsuit over the editing of “60 Minutes.” Colbert called the deal

Paramount settled the Trump lawsuit to gain approval from the Trump administration for the sale to David Ellison’s Skydance Media and Redbird Capital Partners. Although CBS announced that the reason for Colbert’s cancellation was financial, not political, many have expressed doubts.

Ellison took ownership of Paramount in August. Mr. Stewart joked that he too could be at the mercy of the company’s bid to return to the political center.

The company began a major round of layoffs last week to reduce its workforce by 10%, cutting 1,000 employees and plans to lay off another 1,000 in the coming weeks.

After a nine-year hiatus, Stewart returned as host in February 2024. He had been at the helm of the show for 16 years before taking a hiatus in 2015, but his current contract was expiring.

He hosted the show until 2022, when he stepped down. This led to a rotating list of guest hosts, including Kal Penn, Charlamagne the God, Sarah Silverman, and Michelle Wolf.

Last month, during a conversation with a New Yorker at a cultural festival, Stewart was asked if she would mind staying longer. “We’re working towards staying,” Stewart told The New Yorker’s David Remnick.

“The Daily Show” host rotation also includes Ronnie Chen, Josh Johnson, Jordan Klepper, Michael Costa, Desi Riddich, Troy Iwata and Grace Kulenschmidt.
