It didn’t take long for the linebacker to establish himself as a key player for .

Months after he signed a one-year veteran minimum contract, his teammates voted him their captain. Landman became the signalman for the defense, forcing numerous turnovers on a Rams team that was 8-2 with a .111 batting average.

On Saturday, the Rams moved to retain Landman for the future, signing him to a three-year contract extension, the team announced.

The terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but the deal includes more than $15 million in guarantees, said the person, who requested anonymity because the terms of the contract are not public.

Landman, 27, is in his fourth year as a pro and played at the University of Colorado before signing with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent.

Landman had a team-high 91 tackles for the Rams, including a team-record 17 tackles. He forced four fumbles.

“Some players have natural leadership qualities and traits that endear them to their teammates,” coach Sean McVay said this week, adding, “I think the best part is that Nate is nobody but himself.”

Signing Landman to a contract extension would be a notable departure for a Rams organization that has not historically invested heavily in inside linebackers.

Landman, veteran Troy Reeder, second-year pro Omar Speights and rookie Sean Dolac were all undrafted free agents.

Ernest Jones, a third-round pick by the Rams in 2021, was traded to the Tennessee Titans in 2024, before the final year of his rookie contract.

The Rams will face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
