President Trump united the Latino vote by disparaging the policies of his second term.
It turns out that a majority of Latino adults in the United States disapprove of the job President Trump has done since returning to the White House earlier this year.
The incident continues across the country, with many Latinos growing angry at the politicians who are running and rebuilding the country’s emerging economy.
A Pew poll found that 70% of Latinos disapprove of the way Trump is conducting his job as president. When it comes to immigration, 65% disapprove of the current administration’s approach to the issue. Regarding the economy, 61% said that President Trump’s policies have worsened the economic situation.
However, party affiliation still played an important role in how Latinos evaluated Mr. Trump’s performance. Overall, 81% of Latino Trump voters in 2024 approve of his job so far, an impressive level of support, though down sharply from 93% since the start of his second term.
Among Latinos who voted for Kamala Harris, President Trump’s approval rating was 4% in February, but has since plummeted to 0%. His approval rating among 2,024 Latino nonvoters dropped from 42% to 27%. Overall, the president’s approval rating among all Latino groups has fallen from 42% at the beginning of the year to 27% this fall.
In the Pew survey, Latino voters also expressed pessimism about their future in the U.S. Of those surveyed, 68% said conditions for Latinos in the U.S. are worse now than they were a year ago, 9% said they are better, and 22% said they feel about the same. An overwhelming 89% of Harris voters felt things were getting worse for Latinos. 66% of non-voters agreed with that assessment. Additionally, 31% of those who voted for President Trump believe that Latinos are worse off now than they were last year.
40% of red flag voters in 2024 felt the situation for Latinos in the U.S. was about the same as the previous year. Furthermore, 28% of those voters believe that Latinos in the U.S. are better off now compared to 2024.
This dataset is consistent with data recently conducted in partnership with Noticias Telemundo.
Of the more than 1,100 people surveyed, 65% said it’s been a “bad time” to be Latino or Hispanic in the United States. When the poll was conducted in March 2024, that number was 40%. Broken down by party, 84% of Democrats said “this was a bad time,” while 68% of independents and 32% of Republicans said “now was a bad time.”
A majority of those surveyed in the Pew survey, 78%, felt President Trump’s policies were doing more harm than good to the Latino community. Harris voters once again rallied against Trump, with 97% agreeing that his policies are negatively impacting their community. Seventy-eight percent of non-voters agreed that they felt the Republican president’s policies were having a negative impact on Latinos.
President Trump voters are divided on this issue, with 41% saying his policies have been beneficial to Latinos, 34% saying they have been harmful, and 22% saying they have had no effect.
These findings appear to disrupt the narrative that Latinos nationwide have moved politically to the right in recent years.
Harris received 51% of the vote in the 2024 presidential election, significantly higher than the 36% she received in the 2020 presidential election. In fact, it underestimated Trump’s support among Latinos, with the Republican candidate receiving 46% of the Latino vote on Election Day.
Additionally, 47% of naturalized citizens of all ethnic backgrounds voted for Trump in 2024, up from 38% in 2020. In the same voting bloc, 51% voted for Harris in 2024, a notable decrease from the 59% who voted for Joe Biden in 2020.
Naturalized Latinos increased their vote for President Trump by 12%, jumping from 39% in 2020 to 51% in 2024.
