“60 Minutes” has President Trump in its sights again.
President Trump went after the prestigious CBS News program after a Sunday interview with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), a former staunch ally who is set to leave Congress in January.
Correspondent Leslie Stahl sat down with Greene for a brutally candid conversation in which she detailed her break with the president. President Trump called Greene a traitor, which Greene said led to death threats against her and her family. Greene also said the president is not focusing on the issues that matter most to his supporters and that many of his colleagues are only supporting him out of fear.
Trump has posted on his Truth Social platform slamming Greene and CBS News, suing the network for its handling of an interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris, his 2024 presidential opponent, earlier this year.
Trump’s post said Greene was “in bad shape because she was jilted by the President of the United States (not the first time she was jilted, of course)” and called her a “low IQ traitor.”
But Trump added that the “real problem” with the interview was that parent company Paramount allowed the show to air. President Trump praised the warm relationship he and his father, Larry, have had since Paramount was acquired by CBS News.
President Trump also spoke positively about the hiring of Bari Weiss as editor-in-chief of CBS News. Weiss took over the role after Paramount acquired Free Press, a maverick digital news platform. She met President Trump when he recently did a “60 Minutes” interview.
However, the good atmosphere didn’t last long.
“They are no better than the old ownership who paid me millions of dollars for false reporting about me, your favorite president!” Trump wrote. “60 Minutes has actually gotten worse since I bought it!”
President Trump concluded his letter by demanding “a full and complete apology from Leslie Stahl and ’60 Minutes’ for her inaccurate and defamatory statements about Hunter’s laptop, although it is too late to make any sense.”
Representatives for CBS News did not respond to requests for comment.
The rift between Greene and Trump began over her support for releasing Jeffrey Epstein files. Since then, she has supported Democrats on Affordable Care Act subsidies, criticized the White House’s policy toward Israel, and complained that the White House was not taking voters’ concerns about the rising cost of living seriously enough.
The former supporter, who frequently appeared wearing a red “Make America Great Again” hat, also called out his fellow Republicans for supporting Trump out of fear of retaliation.
”I think they’re afraid of crossing the line and getting a bad post on Truth Social,” Green said.
Asked whether her colleagues privately support Trump, Greene said: “I think it’s going to shock people how they talk about him behind the scenes.”
“I watched a lot of my colleagues make fun of him, make fun of the way he talked, and make fun of me for supporting him constantly, and when he won the 2024 primary, they all — excuse the language, Leslie — all started kissing his ass and decided to wear MAGA hats for the first time,” Green said.
