The rapper and pop culture icon will perform during the halftime show of the Detroit Lions vs. Minnesota Vikings game in Minneapolis on Dec. 25 as part of Netflix’s NFL Christmas Game Day streaming event.
The show, dubbed “Snoop’s Holiday Halftime Party,” will feature hit songs, special guests and holiday cheer, Netflix said in a news release.
“The NFL, Netflix, and your uncle Snoop on Christmas Day? We’re bringing music, love, and good vibes for the whole world to enjoy,” Snoop Dogg said in a news release. “It’s the kind of holiday magic that Santa can’t fit into a bag.”
On Tuesday, Netflix canceled its halftime show. The funk legend narrates the clip, which may or may not be a hint at the identity of one of the special guests. At one point, the Parliament-Funkadelic leader utters, “Bow wah wah, yippee yo yippee yay.” This is a line from Snoop’s 1982 solo hit “Atomic Dog,” which he uses in several songs.
Born Calvin Broadus, the once polarizing gangsta rapper has now become a beloved and ubiquitous mainstream personality. In just the past few days, he’s been seen appearing as a judge on the prime-time TV show The Voice and rapping during the intro to Monday Night Football.
