Rams star Puka Nacua fined $25,000 by NFL for criticizing referees

His comments about NFL officiating came at a cost, and it wasn’t just the confusing controversy they sparked before games.

The NFL has fined the Rams receiver $25,000 for officiating in the NFL, the league confirmed Friday.

Nacua caught 12 passes for a career-high 225 yards and two touchdowns against the Seahawks.

“Refereeing is the worst,” Nacua said on Tuesday, along with YouTubers N3on and Adin Ross.

Nacua didn’t stop there.

“These guys are lawyers, and they really want to be on TV, brother,” Nacua said. “You wouldn’t expect him to be texting his friends in a group chat like, ‘Hey guys, you just saw me on Sunday Night Football.’ It wasn’t (pass interference), but that’s what I called it.”

After the loss to the Seahawks, Nacua appeared to double down.

“Can you tell me I was wrong?” “Thank you for your contribution, Mr. Stripe. LOL.”

The post was immediately deleted.

“After such a tough, intense game, it was just a moment of frustration just thinking about the chances we could have taken better out of their hands,” Nacua told reporters in the locker room. “I was just a little annoyed.”

In the post-match press conference, he stated that he had not seen Nacua’s post on X.

Regarding Nacua’s criticism of officials during a livestream, McVeigh said, “Oh, we don’t want to do that.”

It’s been a turbulent week for Nacua, who made an anti-Semitic gesture during the same livestream, saying he didn’t know the gesture would be considered offensive.

In addition to Nacua’s fine, the NFL suspended Seahawks linebacker Derrick Hall for one game for unnecessary roughness and unsportsmanlike conduct when he stepped on the foot of Rams guard Kevin Dotson in the first quarter on Thursday. Dotson injured his ankle and did not return after being carted from the sideline to the locker room.
