Whether you’re an ambitious indie developer or a triple-A studio with a huge budget, it’s a high order to land a new fantasy RPG stick in the current climate. Quite recently, Avowed gave it a good crack, but if it disappoints you, maybe The Polluted Holy Grail: The Destruction of Avalon You can pick up pieces. It’s been early access for about two years now, so I received a huge new update that will be my last stepping stone towards 1.0 later this year. Ah, and thanks to the new Steam demos of contaminated Grail, you can see exactly what has changed for you.
Unrecognized, Polluted Holy Grail: Avalon’s Fall is certainly a first-person RPG that gives Skyrim energy, and it follows an openly similar path to obsidian. Early Access has had quite a long stint, but that’s what you’d expect when you’re trying to create a huge, deep RPG of this nature as an independent studio. However, with that considerable patch 0.9 dropping today, it is now home stretching towards a full release.
This new update brings a wealth of new content to the contaminated Holy Grail, including the “nearly final” version of its prologue and the entire ACT 1, which developer Questline says will offer around 20 hours of gameplay. In this early part of the game, many new bosses, NPCs, story content and loot items were added.
It also introduces some important features that you’ll want to find in top RPGs. Currently there is a romance system, photography mode, farming and housing, and new character creation tools. There are also new additions to the soundtrack, allowing you to perform brutal finisher moves, and there is a “mini cutscene” for boss encounters.
Elsewhere, there were improvements made to (inhalation) (inhalation) (inhalation) (inhalation) (inhalation) for combat balance, spell summoning, weather effects, lighting, UI, attributes and skill systems, and craft (exhale). If you haven’t noticed it before, this is a rather meaty update.
And if it’s really the last big step to 1.0, then you need to do so. Questline is aiming to fall Avalon, which will be fully released at some point in the second quarter of 2025, so expect to arrive within the next three months or so.

You can still buy the game early access and play all the content you offer, but don’t be afraid if you’re not planning on relinquishing your cash up to 1.0. A new demo will be live on Steam, allowing you to try out the new and improved RPGs for free. Learn more about Tainted Grail and download the demo from the Steam page.
