As someone who loves all of Capcom’s popular survival horror series (I even played the VR version of the fourth game), I say this. resident evil 4 remake This isn’t just a revival of a horror classic, it’s an improvement on one of the most groundbreaking games ever made. However, the original’s gruesome atmosphere loses some of its scare factor, not only due to its focus on action, but also due to outdated visuals. Luckily, the remake brings it back to modern times and restores one of the best horror games to its full glory. The next two games fall more into the action category, but the original and Resident Evil 4 Remake both have a good balance of spooky situations and gun combat. Every time a chainsaw-wielding madman chases you, there’s a giant lake monster that requires seemingly endless bullets to deal with. This game offers the perfect blend of horror and strangeness, capturing the endearing magic of Resident Evil in the process.
Similar to the 2005 game, the Resident Evil 4 remake puts you in the role of Leon, a character that fans will know from the second game, as you try to save the daughter of a U.S. president (a woman named Ashley, not Ivanka Trump) from a religious cult in rural Spain. The focus remains on rescuing Ashley from villagers turned villains, but as always with this series, there’s greater stakes here than meets the eye.
It also captures the same amazing over-the-shoulder gameplay used in the other two remakes, but since the original RE4 was built around the same kind of setup, it works a little better here. The intense chainsaw-wielding knife-wielding QTE is silly but scary, while the scene where you fire the last bullet into the remaining enemies is intense and engaging.
Ed Smith’s 8/10 Resident Evil 4 Remake review puts it in the best possible light: “Resident Evil 4 Remake improves on the visuals, mechanics, and moment-to-moment experience of one of the best games ever made.” It’s a very fine line to walk, keeping the core experience intact and delivering it to a modern audience in much the same way I envisioned it. I felt it I experienced it 20 years ago.
