(News Nation) – Popular budget retailers Shane and Tem are tracking President Trump’s plans to raise prices due to tariffs, with some products more than double their recent costs.
The average price of Shane’s top 100 beauty and health products rose 51% last week, according to data compiled by Bloomberg News. Some items were even seen on steep hikes. The set of 10-piece kitchen towels skyrocketed by 377%, while brow gel rose nearly 200%.
Meanwhile, Chinese retail app Temu appears to be telling US consumers “almost everything” of President Trump’s new import tax, Bloomberg said. According to Bloomberg and USA Today, the company has begun adding “import fees” that sometimes outweigh the value of its products.
After the two companies announced plans to raise prices earlier this month, American consumers were prepared for changes. In a nearly identical statement, Shein and Temu said “recent changes to global trade rules and tariffs” have led to increased operating costs.
These price changes began on April 25th, one week before the end of the so-called “minimum” rule. This allows the Low Value Package to skip certain customs administrative procedures and enter the country tax-free.
Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have been pushing for reforms to De Minimis regulations in recent years, warning that the exemptions make drugs easier to smuggle into the country.
Trump abolished exemptions from China and Hong Kong and slapped 145% tariffs on many Chinese imports.
Which Shane and Tem products are more expensive?
A Bloomberg analysis of Shane found that some categories showed more sharp markup than others. For home and kitchen products and toys, average prices increased by more than 30% from April 24th to April 25th. The rise in women’s clothing was 8%.
These were some of Shane’s biggest price increases from April 24th to April 25th, according to Bloomberg.

Temu appears to have taken a slightly different approach by tacking import fees at checkout.
For example, the popular 14-in-1 power strip was listed on Monday at $19.34, but costs $48.32 after import fees added to the bill at $27.49.
“Items imported into the US may be subject to import fees,” Temu Note explains at checkout. “These fees cover all customs-related processes and costs, including import fees paid to the customs authorities on your behalf.”
The handheld steam iron on the website’s bestseller page had a price tag of $25.80, but it cost nearly $60 when considering the import fee of $32.10.
Still, dozens of items on Temu’s BestSellers list are marked to be shipped from local warehouses and are not facing additional import fees.
Shoppers have recently flooded the “atmospheric” subreddit to avoid their disappointment. In one post, users shared a screenshot of their checkout receipts with import taxes, writing, “For me, there’s no better Temu. Give us all good luck with these tariffs.”
In another post, the user wrote, “Rip Temu, it was good while it continued.”
Neither Temu nor Shein responded immediately to News Nation’s request for comment on Monday.
