If there’s one thing a science fiction series has that grips me, it’s star wars. But I’m also a big fan of Bungie’s Destiny universe, so seeing both combined feels like a fever dream I never want to wake up from. Want to see one of the best FPS games co-star with Star Wars? Destiny 2 Renegades is already on nce discount – now is the best time to get it.
Destiny 2 is definitely in a tough spot right now. The Final Shape expansion capped a decade-long story arc nicely, but since then Bungie has struggled to keep the game from falling flat. Still, there’s nothing like a good crossover piece to help bring the universe to life. The sci-fi theme and space magic make Star Wars and Destiny 2 a great fit. Destiny 2 Renegades is what happens when these two collide.
This isn’t a simple collaboration like we see in Fortnite, where Darth Vader shows up out of nowhere to fight the Guardians in some weird meta-bending crossover. Instead, this is a continuation of the Fate saga that began in the previous DLC, with the Wanderer receiving a cryptic warning from the Nine about a new superweapon: Nightfall Station. This means that he will eventually face Dreadgen Bael, who looks like a combination of Kylo Ren and Darth Revan.
Although it’s a licensed expansion, it’s not quite Star Wars. What you get instead is a series of Star Wars-style story beats with a Destiny 2 twist that fits into Bungie’s world. There’s a Lightsabre, a Praxic Blade, and a blaster with a heatsink. Overall, it’s a short but solid development.
Considering how much The Edge of Fate was missing from Destiny 2, it’s no wonder players like me are a little nervous about the game’s future. However, Destiny 2 Renegades is definitely worth playing and is available at a discount from Fanatical, with the DLC currently costing just $34.79 / £30.44. It’s well worth the price, and I’m sure some people don’t like reusing Strand’s abilities while using a light sub – sorry, I did it again, Praxic Blade.
For those who like to jump into DLC and leave the trouble behind, Destiny 2 Renegades is a fun sci-fi adventure that fits surprisingly well into the broader Destiny universe. To be honest, I’d love to see Star Wars Battlefront 3, but that’s a rant for another day.
