(Report) – Canada has updated its travel advisory to the United States amid concerns surrounding President Donald Trump’s policies.
New rules for Canadians in the US
Starting April 11th, Canadians in the United States for more than 30 days must register with US authorities. Failure to do so could lead to “finishes, fines and misdemeanors,” according to the recommendation.
This rule was the previously unenhanced sun in Vancouver Report. It is now mandatory under Trump’s “protect Americans from invasion.”
Newsweek writes that the advisory update will come as Canadians and other foreign tourists are being detained at the US border over visa concerns and inconsistencies in documents.
Also, people had issues with their passports due to an executive order from Trump requesting documents to reflect the gender that a person was assigned at birth. Axios reports that European countries such as Finland, Denmark and Germany are also warning people to pay attention to travel advisories for trans and non-binary people who want to go to the United States.
Canada adds to tensions in the US trade war
In addition to tensions between Canada and the US, it is a trade war between the two and Trump’s repeated statement that Canada should be the 51st state.
Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau urged Canadians to stay in the country for vacation in a speech last month, the New York Times reported.
Statistics Canada wrote that the number of Canadians returning to the US by car fell 23% in February. Canadian residents said they returned from their trips to the US from 585,700 trips the same month. This is a 13.1% decrease from last year.
Harold White, 72, who lives in Quebec, told the New York Times that he had decided not to travel to the United States anymore unless it was “a must.”
“It hurts to think I’m not going to Maine or Cape Cod. “But this time it really feels like a Canadian being slapped across the face by Trump.”
