(Hill) – Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who won the election on Monday to formally replace former leader Justin Trudeau, warned that President Donald Trump is “trying to beat us.”
To ensure the post-winning statement, Carney, he claimed that Trump has “fundamentally changed” the world in recent months.
“As I have been warning for months, America wants our land, our resources, our water, our country,” Carney said in a victory speech in Ottawa late Monday. “These are not neglecting threats. President Trump is trying to destroy us, so America will be able to own us. That will never happen.”
“But we also have to recognize the reality that our world has changed radically,” he added.
Carney won the Liberals in another term, but it’s still too early to know if his party will hold a majority (172 seats) in Congress.
Conservative leader Pierre Polyable admitted his defeat in a speech. His party did not capture the majority, but he said he would ensure that the liberals were held responsible.
Poilliebre, who appeared to have the opportunity to win the late April election a few months ago, unhappy with Canadian immigration and inflation, is also projected to lose a seat in Parliament, a Canadian Broadcasting Company project.
Former central banker, Carney became party leader in March after Trudeau resigned before Trump returned to his oval office. He has since responded to the president’s excavation of Canada. This pledges that Ottawa will not retreat, including the imposition of a 25% tax on imports that are not covered by the US Mexican-Canada agreement, and that the country will pave its own path into a new political situation.
“Let’s end the divisions and rage of the past,” Carney said in a speech Monday. “We are all Canadians and my government works for everyone.”
“No matter where you live, what language you speak, or how you vote, I will always do my best to represent everyone who calls Canada home,” he added.
