I won on Sunday, so now I’m waiting.
After Sunday’s win over the Dallas Cowboys, the Chargers can clinch a postseason berth with a loss or tie against either Houston or Indianapolis.
The Texans are at home against Las Vegas in an afternoon game, and the Colts are at home against San Francisco on Monday night.
It was the seventh win out of eight games for the Chargers, who have won four straight games throughout the season. Sunday was the third time this season they have won over 30 points.
The Chargers quarterback had another gritty performance, throwing two touchdowns and crossing the goal line for the third.
Herbert’s key play came on a third-and-seven early in the fourth quarter, when he kept the ball and scrambled 34 yards. At the end of that run, his surgically repaired left hand collided with the helmet of a Cowboys tackler. The quarterback struggled briefly on the turf but did not come out of the game.
As the rookie ran for a touchdown late in the game, Herbert joined him in the end zone, high-fiving his teammates and reminding him to protect his left hand when he was thrown.
The Cowboys entered Sunday’s game eliminated from postseason contention, but they still had the NFL’s No. 1 offense and a potent passing attack led by Dak Prescott. He effectively neutralized the Chargers’ defense in the first half and scored touchdown passes in the first and second quarters.
The Chargers conclude the regular season with a home game against Houston on Saturday and a finale in Denver.
