Chargers vs. Cowboys: How to watch, start time, predictions

It’s a testament to the coaching that this season’s team is decidedly un-Charger-like and continues to win games despite numerous significant injuries. They won back-to-back games against both teams in the Super Bowl last season.

Their challenge Sunday is to beat the Cowboys, who were 3-1 in November but are off to a losing streak this month.

The Cowboys lead the league in offense, gaining nearly 400 yards per game, but are 29th in total defense and last in passing. Face-to-face is not an advantageous matchup for them.

Dallas lost to Minnesota in Week 15, eliminating them from postseason contention.

The Chargers can qualify for the playoffs with a win, loss, or tie against either Indianapolis (vs. San Francisco) or Houston (vs. Las Vegas).

How the Chargers will win: If Herbert has time, he should be able to dissect the Cowboys’ secondary suspects, which rely heavily on zone coverage. That led to a number of explosive plays. The Cowboys are also weak against the run, so the Chargers’ balanced attack will give them a big boost. Please show another strong performance from defense.

How the Cowboys win: Play aggressively to win, not to protect a lead. That means outscoring the Chargers instead of settling for field goals, which Brandon Aubrey is a weapon for. It would help the Cowboys take some risks and go for fourth down more often. They can put points on the board, but more often they move the ball well between the 20s. It would be helpful if our defense could improve even a little.
