(Nexstar) – A guest on a Dutch-American cruise was killed on a personal boat on Saturday, Bahamas police say.
The guest, identified as a 73-year-old woman by the Netherlands and America, was on a liner in Nieu Amsterdam, who left Florida on March 16 for a week-long cruise to the Caribbean. The incident occurred in Half Mooncay in the Bahamas, where the ship is scheduled to return to Fort Lauderdale, Royal Bahamas police showed.
“The woman who was a passenger was on a jet ski when she was allegedly losing control and collided with a rock,” police officials said. They also identified her as a British/Czechoslovak citizen.
“The medical personnel provided support to the victims, but it was of no use,” police wrote. “She was declared dead by a local doctor.”
In a statement to Nexstar, a representative of Holland America Line confirmed “tragic incidents relating to individual vessels” but refused to provide further information.
“We are in touch with our guests’ families and doing everything we can to support them during these difficult times,” the statement read.
