Darkest Dungeon 2 Already brutal and challenging, the introduction of that kingdom mode took things to a new dimension. Bring the Core DD2 experience into a strategy game-style setting. It is laid out like a tabletop board game, bringing turn-based combat and a splendidly harsh aesthetic into a fresh experience. Developer Red Hook has promised that more content drops, known as “modules,” will arrive in the kingdom, but now that pledge has been better as the second extension, the Secret Secret, has arrived.
If you haven’t scratched what the darkest dungeon 2 kingdom is, here’s a very quick introduction to the strategy game style experience. The running of each kingdom is laid out in a series of tiled paths, with the goal being to stop evil forces from taking over the land by plotting the course through the tiles and reaching the final boss. However, meeting their soldiers and followers will get in your way, and you only have a finite number of “days” to find and defeat their leader.
They are also scattered around the board. These are friendly sanctuaries that you can rest and recover, but if you don’t protect them enough, they can be overrun by the opposition. Depending on the difficulty level, if you lose a certain number of accommodations, the game will be over. Finding yourself in a combat encounter will be tested in a similar way to the original dark dungeon 2 experience: turn-based combat, team composition and smart tactical decisions.
Bung of the Beast Clan was the name of the gritty first module in Kingdoms, but for this latest expansion, Red Hook is turning to the theme of magic. “Secret Secrets pose a whole new challenge as you face off against a group of malicious witches,” the developer says. “The invisible threads of magic are at work, and they are pulling the kingdom’s seams. Please follow the clues to uncover and eradicate this mystical covenant before their destructive influences take root!”
Like the fresh enemies and stories of the Kingdom, this mode also offers a great addition to quality of life. This allows you to hide at least three items from the accommodation you visit, but you can upgrade the number of slots to keep even more. Hoarding allows you to buy back items for just a small portion of the price you purchased. There are also new help tools to help you choose a powerful and free team composition.
In addition to the free secrets of the Coven update, the Premium The Binding Blade DLC has also been removed. This gives you two more characters in your arsenal – Duelist and Crusades.
