I’ve always loved World of Warcraft. From the moment you set foot on Azeroth at the beginning of Mists of Pandaria, you knew Blizzard’s iconic MMO was something truly special. But now that the expansion has passed and my real life has gotten busier, jumping into raiding after work isn’t as easy as it used to be. It’s really hard to keep up with tough situations, and I don’t want to throw myself into it. However, there fellowship Boiling WoW’s raids down to simple missions with shared gear quickly became my favorite multiplayer game of the year (see, it rhymes).
I first encountered Fellowship at Gamescom, and it had the same brilliance that immediately struck me with WoW. Rather than creating your own custom character, you choose from a group of heroes of your choice, but your main objective is to run dungeons, collect loot, and do it all over again. With fast-paced combat that’s a little more reminiscent of Diablo than WoW, and a character roster that feels very Dota 2, it’s basically all of my favorite things in one place.
Chief Rebel has been hard at work implementing post-launch features, including an improved UI (which just completely blows WoW away) and various fixes to the server to avoid those pesky disconnects and timeouts. There was a recent Halloween event, and I think Christmas will be around the corner. So a snowy Stronghold looks pretty good.
Despite a somewhat rocky start, Fellowship is climbing the ranks, and with over 14,000 Steam players consistently logging in each night, there’s no shortage of companions to form a ship with. But if you’ve been holding out to get it, I have good news for you.
