james bond has been a pop culture icon for generations, captivating people with his sleek gadgets, weapon-equipped Aston Martins, and, of course, his effortless charisma as a superspy. Despite their popularity, video game tie-ins are either instant classics or huge failures. 007 First Lightan upcoming game from legendary Hitman developer IO Interactive, falls into the former camp. Only time will tell, but what we do know for now is that you can get a big discount if you pre-order from Fanatical. So if you want to buy it, you’re better off buying it from Fanatical.
Whether you’re a Craig Stan or Brosnan fan (and it’s okay to like both), 007 First Light is definitely an interesting take on the character. This time around, the new Bond takes on his first mission and earns his 00 status and license to kill. This is a solid explanation of the themes and gameplay that this version of Bond is a little rough around the edges, and considering how bad I am at some of the best sandbox games like Hitman, it only makes my portrayal of the new Bond accurate.
Similar to the Hitman games, you’re promised multiple locations littered with NPCs, but it’s equally possible to dive headfirst into enemy strongholds while firing guns, rather than being locked into stealth. This is a big change from Hitman’s scorecard-style approach, and means it can be enjoyed as a more accessible action-adventure piece if you so choose.
Based on the existing trailers, 007 First Light looks like Hitman and Uncharted had a baby, and I’m here for it. It’s also been over four years since No Time to Die was released, and while I’m a bit of a sucker for gentle spy thrillers, I think First Light’s interesting take on the 72-year-old character is exactly what I need.
If you’re interested in trying out 007 First Light when it launches, you can buy it from Fanatical for just $60.89 / £52.19. That’s a 13% discount, which is a great deal considering you’d be paying full price if you pre-ordered elsewhere. It’s unclear how long this contract will last, but it will probably last at least until the release date of 007: First Light.
In any case, we hope to see you in the field soon, 007. Do you think James Bond would be impressed by how a gaming PC fits into a small tablet-sized device like the Steam Deck? I think so, but he’d probably be too busy to even play his own games, much less waste time on Vampire Survivor for his 500th playthrough.
