He joined the New York Giants last Sunday as their No. 3 quarterback.
He looks set to make his first start of the season this week.
According to multiple media outlets, Winston has been moved ahead of his fellow veteran quarterback on the Giants’ strength chart. The move makes it seem likely that Winston will start Sunday against the Green Bay Packers, as he remains in concussion protocol and remains a regular starter.
This is the first major decision interim coach Mike Kafka has made since the Giants fired him on Monday. New York has a 20-40-1 record over three seasons under Daboll, including a 2-8 start this season.
Wilson, a 10-time Pro Bowl selection and Super Bowl champion with the Seattle Seahawks, started 11 games for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024, his 13th season in the NFL. He signed with the Giants during the offseason to be their starting quarterback in 2025.
Winston was signed as Wilson’s backup. Over the past 10 NFL seasons, Winston was 36-51 with 154 touchdowns and 111 interceptions as the starting quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New Orleans Saints and Cleveland Browns.
In April, the Giants traded nine spots in the draft and selected Dart with the 25th overall pick. The rookie from Mississippi State ended up taking the No. 2 quarterback spot. However, Wilson had little impact during the Giants’ 0-3 start, and Dart was promoted to starting QB in Week 4.
Darts started the first three games, helping the Giants win two of them and the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. Overall this season, Dart is 2-7 as a starter, completing 63 percent of his passes for 1,417 yards, 10 touchdowns, and three interceptions.
Last week against the Chicago Bears, Dart hit his head on the ground during the third quarter and ended up being tested for a concussion for the fourth time this season. Wilson entered the game in the middle and eventually made a field goal to give the Giants a 20-10 lead.
But overall, Wilson was again ineffective, completing 3 of 7 passes for 45 yards and getting sacked twice as the Giants collapsed and lost the game 24-20.
