Cornerback Kris Boyd remains in critical but stable condition a day after being shot in the abdomen in midtown Manhattan.
The New York City Police Department has released surveillance footage of a suspect wanted in connection with a shooting that occurred around 2:06 a.m. Sunday in front of 156 West 38 St. in the Midtown South Precinct.
“The individual being searched is described as male, with a medium complexion,” the NYPD said in an emailed statement to the Times. “He was last seen wearing a black hat, black sweatshirt, black pants, multi-colored sneakers, and carrying a black book bag.”
The suspect fled on foot eastbound on West 38th Street, the NYPD said. According to police, emergency medical services responded to the incident and transported the 29-year-old male victim to New York City Health Hospital/Bellevue in serious but stable condition.
New York Mayor Eric Adams’ office was one of the first to identify Boyd as the victim.
“Praying for New York Jets player Kris Boyd and his loved ones,” Adams wrote on social media Sunday. “While mass shootings have reached historic lows in our city, we must continue our efforts to end gun violence. Too many young people’s lives are being tragically altered and taken by this epidemic.”
“We are aware of the situation regarding Kris Boyd and have no further comment at this time,” the Jets, who received a bye on this week’s NFL schedule, said in a statement Sunday.
Boyd was drafted in the seventh round of the 2019 draft by the Minnesota Vikings and also played for the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans. Boyd, primarily known as a special teams player, signed a one-year, $1.6 million contract with the Jets this offseason, but was placed on season-ending injured reserve on Aug. 18 with a shoulder injury.
On Sunday, Jets linebacker Jermaine Johnson and defensive tackle Harrison Phillips offered prayers for their teammates on social media.
“Everyone please send prayers to my brother and teammate Chris Boyd and his family!!!” “Lord, please place your healing hand on Chris and bring him back to health and safety. Lord, please help him get through this.”
“Father, we come to you now and ask for your healing power over KB. You are the God of miracles. Lord, lay your mighty hand on him as he fights the Lord God. Guide every doctor, nurse, and surgeon who touched him. Lord, give strength to his family! Chris is a warrior and we are all here for him.”
