If you take a look at the game’s Steam page and pick out the titles the developer influenced, you’ll know you’re in good company. JRPG Metroidvania Fallen Tears Ascension There are some heavy titles to choose from, including Shadow of the Colossus, Elden Ring, Ori and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but the one that springs to mind is the lighter, more bubbly Hollow Knight, which alone should get me, and many others, excited, given how quickly the game hit its main Kickstarter goal.
While it feels like Kickstarter’s heyday is behind us, it’s still possible to make a big hit on the crowdfunding site. The page for Fallen Tear The Ascension went live on Tuesday, August 27th, and just six hours later, the initial goal was met, completing the Metroidvania game’s funding. The team asked for $30,000, which they easily achieved. Currently, the title is working through its stretch goals.
It’s easy to see why Fallen Tear has been such a success: it promises a huge open world filled with all the great Metroidvania goodness – shortcuts, areas that unlock as you become more skilled – combined with JRPG elements that influence how combat plays out. It’s an appealing combination, and further boosting our confidence that the project can pull off is the game’s stunningly beautiful art style, which oozes out of every screenshot and GIF posted by developer Winter Crew.
At the time of writing, the Kickstarter has stretch goals lined up and is reaching them, including a boss rush mode, English and Japanese voiceovers, extra quests and NPCs, free DLC, etc. There are still a few to be unlocked, and with just over two weeks left in the campaign, it doesn’t take a prophet to predict they will probably be reached.
Fallen Tear The Ascension doesn’t yet have a release date, other than a promise that it will be released soon.If you want to check out the Kickstarter campaign to see if it’s worth shelling out some money for yourself, you can do so here.
