Justin Herbert selected as one of Chargers’ five Pro Bowl selections

On Tuesday, five players on both sides of the ball, including the team’s “quarterbacks,” were named to the AFC’s Pro Bowl team.

Both the quarterback and safety earned the honor. They will be joined by an outside linebacker, tackle and kicker.

Earning his second Pro Bowl designation, Herbert became the third player in NFL history to begin his career with six consecutive seasons of 3,000 passing yards and 20 or more touchdowns.

James, a five-time Pro Bowl selection, is the only defensive back in the NFL this season with at least 80 tackles (five for loss) and multiple sacks and interceptions.

Dicker is the most accurate kicker in NFL history and is the team’s Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year club award recipient. He leads AFC kickers with 36 made field goals and 141 points.

Tulipulotu, a former USC standout, ranks third in the NFL with 13 sacks and has a career-high 20 tackles.

The only surprise in that group is Alto, who moved from right tackle to left tackle after left tackle Rashawn Slater suffered a season-ending injury in training camp. Alto was a mainstay for the first three weeks of the season, but suffered an ankle injury in Week 4 against the New York Giants, playing in 10 games. He returned in Week 8 to play against Minnesota, but left the game against Tennessee in Week 9 with the same ankle injury that required season-ending surgery.

Despite this, he was an outstanding tackle and earned his first Pro Bowl honor, determined by a consensus vote of fans, players, and coaches.

Four more Chargers were named Pro Bowl alternates: outside linebacker Khalil Mack, special teams linebacker Delshawn Phillips, cornerback Donte Jackson and fullback/defensive lineman Scott Matlock.
