If you play PvP in an MMO, Elder Scrolls Online Tamriel isn’t the first place you visit. Typically, players jump into Tamriel for the lore, the world, the quests, and the oddities they find along the way, with PvP being a distant concern. However, there is a core of dedicated PvP players, and things haven’t been looking good lately. That’s all about to change, however. Update 44 for the game is coming soon, and players will be saying goodbye to one PvP mode and waving hello to another.
In Elder Scrolls Online, there are two main ways players can enjoy PvP: the Alliance War in Cyrodiil and the MMORPG battlefields. These battlefields feature three teams, one for each of the game’s alliances, facing off against each other in fierce combat. While fun, they can quickly become very chaotic and confusing, especially if you’re new to the mode. In the next update, the three-team battlefields will follow the same path as the Dwemer and disappear from the game.
Instead, players will be treated to new modes featuring PvP Battlegrounds that pit two teams against one another. The first will consist of 4v4 and 8v8 variants, with the latter mode featuring power-ups that give temporary buffs to spice it up a bit. All of the previous Battlegrounds variants will return, including Chaosball, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Relic, Domination, and Crazy King. What’s new, however, are seven maps that will be making their debut with the release of this new PvP system, giving players new locations in which to commit digital murder.
One of the best new features added to the game in recent years is the companion system, which lets you travel with friends who will level you up, help you in combat, and harshly criticize you for doing harmless things (yes, we’re looking at you, Ember). Update 44 adds two new companions to ESO, both of which will need to be purchased with crowns from the in-game store, but are free if you have a subscription to the game.
Tanlorin is a non-binary High Elf who uses a combination of Dragonknight and Soul Magic abilities to add a passive buff to lockpicking. Zerith-var is a very serious Khajiit necromancer who will increase your greed by helping you find bags of loot found throughout the game world. Completing the associated achievement will permanently unlock the buff, allowing you to take advantage of its benefits even when not on a quest.
Scribing also gets a boost with the first new Grimoires added since the system’s introduction – Bannerbearer lets you fly a flag on your back and apply buffs to your whole team, including NPCs and other players – and 14 new Focus Scripts also make an appearance, giving you more options to tweak your damage, support and healing abilities.
The game’s tutorial will bring back the original questline involving Coldharbour, introduce a challenge system with unique rewards, improve itemization for adventures in the Imperial City, and many more features are on the way.
Update 44 for The Elder Scrolls Online will be released for PC on Monday, October 28, with the patch hitting the Public Test Server on Monday, September 16.You can find out more about what’s to come in the full preview on the official website.
