BEIJING (AP) – In one small step of the robot Kind – in fact, the humanoid robot ran alongside real humans in the half marathon in China’s capital on Saturday.
Bipedal robots of various manufacturers and sizes were navigated through a 21.1-kilometer (13.1-mile) course supported by a team of human navigators, operators and engineers, saying that event organizers were the first to do so. As a precaution, the splitters separated the robots and the parallel courses people use.
While flesh and blood participants followed traditional rules, the 20-team fielding machines in the humanoid robot half marathon competed in tailored guidelines, including battery swap pit stops.
Sky Project Ultra Robot, also known as Tien Kung’s team’s Tien Kung Ultra, claimed victory among the non-humans, crossed the finish line in 2 hours 40 minutes 42 seconds.
The award was also awarded in the most innovative form, the best durability, the best walking design.
