(KTLA) – Americans on vacation in Rome have reportedly recovered after climbing the fence at the ruins of the Colosseum, falling, falling, falling, falling, falling, falling, after climbing a fence at the ruins of the Colosseum.

The incident occurred around 5pm on Friday, according to Italian news on Italian news outlet day, and some witnesses were shocked to immediately call for help.

The 47-year-old, who has not yet been identified, reportedly passed away by bringing the spikes to his lower back and screaming in pain, Huffpost reported.

He “he remained stuck in a painful and dramatic position,” his first responder was in the middle, an eyewitness told an Italian outlet.

After assessing the situation, paramedics gave the man a sedative while working to pull him away from the spike, which took about 20 minutes, Italian reported. Medical personnel worked at the scene to contain the bleeding, then rushed the man to San Giovanni Hospital in Rome for emergency surgery due to the deep wound.

The man reportedly was stable after the surgery, requiring over 80 stitching, but it is unclear whether there was permanent damage to the spine.

It is unclear why an American who currently lives in Taiwan and visited Italy with family and friends climbed the fence in the first place.

Some reports suggest that he is trying to take a selfie or get a better view of world-famous tourist attractions. Or, as Italian news reported, “it is assumed that he simply wants to get closer to the monument.”

Police in Rome began investigating the incident and have since questioned the man.
