When is the release date of Outer World 2? It’s been a while since Obsidian Entertainment’s first space venture, but it had a lot of the same DNA as the Fallout series. This isn’t necessarily surprising given that Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky, creators of the Fallout series, were the game’s directors. Now we have finally got a chance to return to Halcyon in the outer world2.
The first in the Obsidian’s Space Adventure series was a fun RPG game that was probably hampered by the studio’s upcoming Microsoft acquisition. Outer World 2 was confirmed to be under active development in June 2021, with a reduced release date window. Here’s what you know about the release date window for Auto Worlds 2 and what you can speculate about upcoming sequels to Space Games:
Outer World 2 Release Date
As revealed in the trailer on the Xbox Games Showcase, Autourworld 2 will be released on Wednesday, October 29th, 2025. Space games land on consoles on PC, PS5, and Xbox series.
Outer World 2 was first announced at an Xbox Showcase presentation in 2021, and was not revealed by TGAS on December 12, 2024. Before that, all I really knew about the game was “a new solar system, a new crew, the same outside world.”
Now, thanks to various sources, there’s more to it. But mostly, the Obsidian game sticks to the first game’s disrespectful sense of humor.
Outer World 2 Trailer
The first Outer World 2 trailer was released in June 2021 and well, it didn’t really talk much about it. That classic outer world humor was called once more to confirm that “the developers have not completed the design, finished the story, or completed the gameplay they are ready to show.” Since then it has all been quiet on the outside front.
Fast forward three and a half years later, and some major advances have been made. Outer Worlds 2 is ready for its 2025 release date and gameplay is on display in the TGAS trailer at the top of this page. This time, the trailer promises “more action, more weapons, more graphics.” Well, better graphics, but you know what that narrator is like. They also say that the game “takes three times longer to make, but it’s almost certainly twice as big.”
In April 2025, IGN released an exclusive 11-minute gameplay, kicking off in the middle of some sort of crystal planet. Here we’ll start by looking at some of the combat (including stealth), companion systems, and some of the dialogue choices you’ll get.
The 2025 Xbox showcase brought a three-minute gameplay trailer and established it in the Arcadia invasion of Auntie’s Choice Invasion. There are plenty of glimpses of what we assume is your peers, stealth and third parties when it comes to space capitalism. Ah, it looks like Outer World 2 has its own style of destiny.

Outer World 2 Gameplay
Outer World 2 is set to be bigger and bolder than its predecessor. This is largely thanks to a larger budget and, this time, an extension of development time that Obsidians can use at their own freedom. Creative Director Leonard Boyalsky is hoping for a “true, obsidian reactive RPG” this time at The Outer Worlds 2 Direct in June 2025.
This time you are the agent of Earth and slap yourself in the midst of a full-scale invasion of Arcadia at Auntie’s choice. As this happens, Arcadia is an isolated solar system with abundant resources. It is also where skip drives (that allows interstellar travel) were created. However, the space-time rifts caused by these drives are open, disrupting intergalactic trade. Your job sent from Earth to Arcadia is to help you fix this confusion.
First, perhaps most importantly, Outer World 2 is in favour of providing full third person support. This is great news for those who enjoy its fulfilling FOV and it’s a better look at what your character is doing. Yes, switching to a third person will kill some of the immersion in that RPG, but it’s not too bad considering the main character of Outer World 2 is not a blank slate character of your own creation.
But that doesn’t mean you can’t create your character. You can determine the background and reasoning to participate in the supervision, as well as positive and negative traits, skills, perks and flaws. Game Director Brandon Adler says Tow2’s PERK system “borrowed” from Fallout New Vegas.
All of these factors influence interactions with other characters and the wider world, making them much more meaningful. This is exemplified by the segment of the bridge between them. This shows whether you can choose between diplomacy, stealth, or burning old guns to burn a firearm.
Outer World 2 Edition
There are two Outer World 2 editions, Standard and Premium. Special pre-order bonuses – Commander Zane’s Battle Pack – are available in both versions. This includes Zane uniform armor, Zane pistols and daggers as well as “Pet Ed Drone” pets.

Outer World 2 Secret Level
On top of the gameplay shown in the TGAS trailer, you can also speculate about The Outer Worlds 2 story thanks to episodes of the game at the secret level of the Amazon Prime Anthology series. In the trailer above, our hero undergoes a rigorous acidity test in the name of love.
We already know that Cleo will do unethical experiments, so this could go a long way in the outer world. I was lucky enough to be able to take part in the preview screening of the episode and didn’t want to ruin anything ahead of the release, but the big changes in Auntie Cleo can get in the way.
