(Hill) – President Trump marked Pope Francis’ death on Monday in a statement on social media after the pioneering Catholic leader passed away at the age of 88.

White House spokesman Caroline Leavitt told reporters early Monday that there were no immediate plans for Trump to attend the Pope’s funeral.
“It doesn’t mean that it’s not happening, there’s nothing to share,” Levitt said.
“We pray for the millions of Christians around the world who love the Pope and praised him this morning,” she added.
The White House on Monday morning also marked Francis’ death, marking a brief statement about the X, including two images.
Vance met with the Pope on Easter the day before France passed away. During this weekend’s visit, Vance said in a message Monday that the clergyman was “obviously very sick,” but he said he was happy to see him.

Francis had problems dealing with Republican immigrants and expressed the view of the Catholic Church that immigrants should be welcomed and treated with dignity. He wrote in February criticizing Trump’s massive deportation plan, claiming that they left people vulnerable and vulnerable, and that they sought laws to help the most marginalized people.
He also weighed in the 2024 election, asking American Catholics to choose “less evil” for the candidate between Trump and former vice president Harris.
Francis died Monday at his residence in Casa Santa Marta, Vatican, after battling a long series of health complications caused by chronic lung disease.
