The NFL always offers surprises.
Who could have predicted that when the Eagles blocked a potential winning field goal attempt and returned it for a touchdown?
Now the Rams are facing something else that is totally unexpected: the undefeated Indianapolis Colts.
When the schedule was announced last spring, the Colts looked like a relatively easy Rams matchup caught between a game against the Eagles and a Thursday night match against NFC West Rival San Francisco 49ers.
But getting better at running through quarterbacks Daniel Jones and Jonathan Taylor, the Colts arrive at Sophie Stadium on one of the top crimes in the NFL and unharmed records after victory with the Miami Dolphins, Denver Broncos and Tennessee Titans.
Jones, 28, was his biggest surprise.
After six seasons with the New York Giants and a brief stint with the Minnesota Vikings last season, Jones is a standout for the Colts.
He passes three touchdowns without interceptions and rushes for three touchdowns.
“I went from the Giants, where he did well over a certain year, then fell a bit and then came back,” Rams Safety said. “You’re looking at a quarterback with nothing to lose because people have already written him down.”
The Colts also ranked seventh in total defense.
The Rams will then welcome the opportunity to play another tough opponent.
“Trump challenges, tough challenges, going from the Eagles to the Red Hot teams, you can maintain your strength rather than getting into a game like a team that comes 0-3 or 1-2,” Lake said.
