All good things must come to an end. Exactly two years after its release, Roadwarden has received its final update. This beautifully written game has received a lot of praise since its release, with some reviews calling it one of the best RPGs of all time. With all updates complete and the game reaching its final form, now is the perfect time to try it out for yourself.
Like all the best RPGs, Lord Warden starts out simple, but as you venture into the wilderness it offers a truly amazing amount of choice. Playing as the titular Lord Warden, you journey to a mysterious, half-abandoned peninsula, spreading the word about the merchant’s guild and helping it increase its influence over the settlements and people who live there. You’ll make alliances, get into trouble (a lot), and encounter some of the most intriguing, mysterious, and magical events and characters in gaming history.
The game cleverly combines a text adventure, RPG, and survival game into one package – think of it as something like a Choose Your Own Adventure game, Steve Jackson’s Sorcery, or The Warlock of Firetop Mountain, and you’ll get an idea of how the game plays.
But this isn’t just a text-based adventure: as you venture into this forgotten world, you’ll need to harness your character’s skills and background, all while managing food, health and cleanliness (people don’t like filthy Lord Wardens). There’s also a time limit, and you must return to civilisation before it’s over, but like many of the game’s difficulty options, this can be disabled.
Since launch, the game has been updated in a few different ways, including new endings and side quests, as well as lots of the usual bug fixes and updates to keep the game running smoothly, and after two years of updates, the journey has finally come to an end and Roadwarden is now considered “finished” by the developers.
To celebrate the release of the final patch, Roadwarden is 50% off until Monday, September 23rd, so now is the perfect time to pick it up.If you’d like to find out more and make your own judgment about the game, head over to Steam and check it out for yourself.
