Sean Diddy Combs Combs was recently arrested in New York City. Following a grand jury indictment, the rapper was arrested by police at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Manhattan. Charges have not yet been released, but Combs was under investigation for sex trafficking earlier this year. Keep reading for the latest updates on Diddy’s charges, arrest, and indictment.
When was Diddy arrested?
Combs was arrested on Monday, September 16. According to NBC News, Diddy did not expect to be arrested at the time.
Why was Sean Combs arrested?
At the time of writing, the grand jury indictment that led to Diddy’s arrest remains unsealed, but Damien Williams, the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, said the district will “move forward to unseal the indictment in the morning and will have more details at that time.” Thus, the charges against Diddy will likely be revealed on Tuesday, September 17th.
Diddy’s lawyer, Mark Anifilo, released statements to multiple media outlets following his client’s arrest, calling Combs’ arrest an “unfair prosecution” by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Anifilo further claimed that Diddy expected to be indicted and had “voluntarily” moved to New York to await it.
“Sean Diddy Combs is a music icon, a self-made entrepreneur, a family man and a proven philanthropist who has spent the last three decades building an empire, caring for children and uplifting the Black community,” the statement read. “He is an imperfect human being, but he is not a criminal. To his credit, Mr. Combs has cooperated fully with this investigation and voluntarily relocated to New York last week in anticipation of these charges.”
The lawyer concluded his statement by saying: “Please reserve judgment until all the facts are known. This is the act of an innocent man with nothing to hide, and he hopes to clear his name in court.”
Was Diddy detained in New York?
According to multiple reports, Diddy was being held by federal agents in New York at the time of his arrest.
Has Diddy been charged with a crime?
The latest grand jury indictment is still sealed, so the charges against the rapper are unclear, but he has previously been accused of sexual assault, battery and multiple other counts by multiple people, including a former girlfriend. Cassie VenturaThe two settled the matter out of court, but earlier this year, surveillance camera footage was released showing Diddy punching and dragging Ventura in 2016.
As a result, Diddy posted an Instagram video admitting that his behaviour as seen on film was “unacceptable”.
“It’s very hard to look back on the darkest times of your life, but sometimes you have to. I was at my worst,” Combs confessed. “I mean, I hit rock bottom. But I make no excuses. My behavior in that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I’m fed up. I was fed up then. I’m fed up now.”
In March, the Department of Homeland Security searched Combs’ Los Angeles and Miami properties. At the time, NBC News reported that sources claimed that “three women and one man were questioned by federal agents in Manhattan on charges of sex trafficking, sexual assault, soliciting and distribution of illegal drugs and firearms.”
Shortly after the raid, Combs’ lawyer, Aaron Dyer, described it as “an unprecedented raid, with a highly organized media presence.”
“No criminal or civil charges have been found on any of these allegations,” Dyer added. “Mr. Combs is innocent and will continue to fight every day to clear his name.”
