Tesla (TSLA) founder Elon Musk said the EV maker could start producing flying cars for the public in the future. On a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, the billionaire hinted that Tesla could officially announce this plan by the end of this year.
Tesla’s founder was very vague and was reluctant to provide further information about the claims or a possible launch. “You know, my friend Peter Thiel once thought that there were going to be flying cars in the future, but we don’t have flying cars,” Musk said. When pressed further, he added, “If Peter wants a flying car, I think we should be able to get one.”
“We’re getting closer to prototype demos. One thing I can guarantee you is that this product demo will be unforgettable,” Musk added. The CEO previously teased that the Flying Roadster would be unveiled at a Tesla event in 2024, but talk of its development has remained quiet. Tesla is always looking to create the next big thing and advance the auto industry, and in recent years has seen success with EVs and the Cybertruck. But flying EVs would be a huge step forward.
Musk added that he believes Tesla’s flying car demo “could be the most memorable product launch ever.” Tesla shares rose 3% today to $452 after Musk’s podcast interview. TSLA has been one of the best performing companies in the US over the past decade, up 81% last year and 239% over the past five years.
