Age of Empires is one of the biggest strategy game series of all time, but the remake of its mythical spinoff is the latest highlight. Mythological age has been rediscussed It was launched last year for strong reviews and deployed several free updates to get even better, but now it’s time to release the first paid DLC: Immortal Pillars. Focusing on Chinese folklore, it throws dozens of new gods into the game, along with fresh units and nine-level campaigns.
Despite some initial review bombings, despite a 90% positive steam rating for Age of Mythology Retold and a passionate review from us, it proves to be worth the salt. Using the classic 2002 game as a base, the new, improved version has throttled the storm. The free update adds a massive new game mode and difficulty settings, making it one of the toughest strategy games right now, but Immortal Pillars DLC is a completely different beast.
Inspired by and remastered by the story of the Dragon’s expansion for the original mythological age, Retold adds 12 new gods of Chinese mythology to the game, including Fuxi, Shennong and Gonggong. They have unique divine powers and abilities, and are able to control new units, beasts picked from ancient Chinese legends. These creatures also feature human units, such as distance soldiers who swing crossbows and horse-heavy armored cavalry.
You can also build expensive new wonders, age and push quickly towards victory. It takes a lot of resources to build, but they are worth prioritizing as wonders will please God who will award you huge buffs and bonuses.
There are also new nine-level campaigns and seven fresh maps. It’s a pretty big extension and you’ll end up licking fresh paint to more fan favorites from the original game and the age.
The Immortal Pillar DLC for the Age of Mythology is out now. If you already own a premium edition of the game, it’s yours at no extra cost, but for those who have the base version, it’s back $19.99/£14.99. You can learn more about it and pick it up here.
