It is called salasophobia, a fear of deep, large bodies of water. Subnautica has it – it certainly looks pretty, and there are plenty of wonders beneath the surface of the ocean, but when your sensors start to flash and Leviathan is closed, it’s so scary that the game gets. There are horror classics that are sometimes overlooked from the frictional styles of Soma and Amnesia. It’s also a terrifying moment when you wander the seabed in total darkness. Take that huge sense of isolation, vulnerability, and smallness and mix it with alien isolation and stalker killer type enemies that get in Resident Evil, and you get Dark masswas announced at a future game show.
You are Alice. Alice is a deep sea explorer whose ostensibly mission is to save the old Ocean Liner shipwreck. But under a rotten hull, you discover something more sinister, an old mansion that has somehow landed at the bottom of an underwater trench. It may seem spectacular at first, but you quickly realize that you are not alone. So Dark Mass, a horror game set entirely under the waves, begins.
Solve puzzles, make decisions that change the story, and try to avoid the terror of the barricaded aquatics that are hunting you. There is certainly an effect here from amnesia, layers of fear, a slightly quieter hill, but every moment of dark mass takes place underwater, so the pressure, pun intended, remains high at all times.
There is no release date for dark mass yet, but you can already wish with steam. Head towards here.
