Firefighters made strong progress in fighting the silver fires in Inilo County on Monday, stopping the flames from moving forward.
According to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Prevention, crews began the day with 0% containment, reaching 47% containment by 7pm. Evacuation orders have been in effect in Inyo and Mono counties as firefighters prepared to spend firefighters to enhance surveillance of containment lines and hot spots, according to Cal Fire.
the oldest wooden base in the world is located on a white mountain about 20 miles east of Bishop, threatened by a fire, according to Cal Fire spokesman Chloe Castillo. So far, none have been destroyed by fire.
Some of these trees are over 4,000 years old, still growing, dating back to the Bronze Age. The forest includes the Methuselah tree, the Earth. To protect the trees, the U.S. Forest Service does not disclose the exact location.
Vegetation fuel flames were first reported Sunday at 2:11pm on Silver Canyon Road north of Bishop, according to Cal Fire.
The fire then jumped onto the highway, threatening “multiple structures.” I mentioned it in X’s post.
Evacuation orders have been issued for the Chalfant of Inyo County, Mono County, and the White Mountain Estates Neighborse law communities, according to Cal Fire.
In an update Monday evening, Cal Fire said:
Air and ground resources have increased significantly to support Monday’s control efforts. However, the strong winds were up to 35 mph gusts at Bishop Airport, which continued to create challenges, grounding several fire aircraft, complicating containment operations.
The fire intensified until overnight Monday due to terrain and strong winds, Cal Fire said. The National Weather Service issued an upwind warning until 9pm Monday. The southwest winds were predicted to range from 25-35 mph, with gusts being up to 65 mph.
The fire experienced moderate growth on Monday, expanding approximately 340 acres before the crew succeeded in moving forward.
The National Weather Service said a more favorable situation was expected from Monday night to Tuesday morning.
Highway 6 Northbound and Southbound were temporarily closed, but reopened at 6:40am Monday, according to L.
“Please note that this is still an active fire zone where the first responder and its equipment moves throughout the area,” CHP said in the post. “Please be safe.”
Authorities have established an evacuation centre at Bishop Senior Center, 475 Sierra St., Bishop, and 682 Spruce St., where animal evacuation is available at Tricounty Fair Grounds, according to Cal Fire.
