LONDON (AP) — The vegetable similarity between US President Donald Trump and singer Dolly Parton and the Pope’s “corn crave” were on display on Saturday and at the Lambeth Country Show, the annual city take of the country fair in Brockwell Park, London.
The two-day show features a vegetable sculpture contest that has been nationally fascinated with shepherds, livestock competitions, food, music and its quirky creativity.
This year, some sculptures referenced recent Pope elections or films on the same subject, including one featuring a cardinal made of corn entitled “Cornclave.”
Other entries included Irish rap trio knee relationship, “Nine Chives,” and “Cauli Parton” from “Cauli Parton”, which has a similarity between the portrait of Liverpool soccer star Mohamed Sara’s vegetable “Mosalada” and the gromit made from animated walls and butatarnatu squash.
Trump also received a butternut squash treatment, but some entries mentioned local politics. In Lambeth, like in other parts of London, local governments have been set to host large concerts and festivals in the park, up to the frustration of some of their neighbors as a way to raise funds.
Mark Ryrance, an actor from “Wolf Hall,” one of the groups of locals opposed to the big event at Brockwell Park, has his apple-sculpted head and satirical signs branded him a nymby (not my backyard) campaigner as “Mark Likerunch.”
“Every year, this is something that excites us: it’s vegetable sculpture,” said Country Fair regular Madirukson. “It’s so unique, so resourceful, we love political things.”
“And pun,” said Marek Sandrowski, who was with her. “Vegetable puns, definitely.”
