When I think about vacation, I don’t think about spending time with my family or having a nice filling dinner, I think about killing zombies. There’s never been a better time to slaughter zombies in my favorite game. If you want to get the best horror games in recent years, resident evil remake trilogy (including Bio 2, Bio 3, and the new Bio 4) are cheaper than ever, so stock up while you can.
Starting with Resident Evil 2, an absolute classic reimagined with modern gameplay, you play as Leon, a rookie who is about to start his first shift in the Raccoon City Police Department. Unfortunately, as with any apocalyptic situation, things quickly go awry and he meets Claire Redfield, who is looking for her brother Chris. It’s an incredible horror game injected with just the right amount of action between standard hordes and a seemingly indomitable Tyrant hunting you down with speeds that Michael Myers would envy.
Next up is Resident Evil 3. It’s a little shorter, but still as non-stop as the second game. This time, you play as Jill Valentine and have to deal with the same zombies you knew and killed 24 hours earlier in the previous game while avoiding the terrifying Nemesis, a brutal tank of “man” that chases you until you finally die. There’s still some great action, and a chance to learn some classic speedruns that Resident Evil fans will enjoy, and while this is the worst of the three here, it’s still great. The other two games just raised the bar much higher.
Finally, the Resident Evil 4 remake isn’t just a facelift, even if it dusts off an iconic horror game. Following Leon, who is tasked with rescuing the president’s daughter from a rural village run by a cult (an easy day at the office), Resident Evil 4 ramps up the action elements and turns it into an intense feast of bullets and blood. But there are still enemies hunting you down, and the rush to complete puzzles is still a sweaty panic.
All three are great fun and great remakes of nostalgic classics, but they’re also great for beginners. If you want to get the trilogy at a bargain price, the Resident Evil Remake trilogy is only $31.49 / £26.24 at Fanatical this holiday season. That’s a huge discount of 65% off, and at just over $10 per game, it’s well worth the money.
It’s as if Santa dropped a bunch of bioweapons filled with horror games down your chimney, but instead of getting frustrated dealing with a ton of zombies, you can immerse yourself in an action-packed version of it. That’s not a bad thing if you ask me, but a zombie apocalypse would crush it. At least if I were Leon.
