MIAMI (AP) – Priscilla, a tropical storm that formed in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Mexico on Saturday.
The Miami-based National Hurricane Center said Priscilla is a “big tropical storm” with tropical storm winds extending from the center up to 140 miles (220 kilometers).
Its maximum sustained wind was 45 mph (75 kph), and according to the center it was located about 285 mph (455 kph) southwest of Manzanillo, heading northwest at 3 mph (6 kph).
Tropical storms have been issued, from Punta San Telmo to Punta Mita, part of the coast of southwestern Mexico.
Priscilla had reached hurricane status on Sunday night or early Monday, and was generally expected to travel parallel to the coast in the coming days.
Another tropical storm off the coast of Mexico, the octave of the Pacific Ocean, had not landed in the forecast, and was far from the coast, without effective coastal clocks or warnings due to the system.
Its maximum sustained wind was only strengthened to 65 mph (100 kph).
