(Hill) – The Ukrainian government launched a T-shirt fundraiser on Friday to take advantage of Ukrainian President Voldy Mee Zelensky’s current oval office meeting with President Trump and Vice President Vance.
The meeting, which was subsequently lifted to the extent that both scheduled joint press conferences were cancelled, was cancelled, including multiple moments that went viral, including when Zelensky was criticized for not wearing a suit. Since Russia invaded his country three years ago, he has been wearing more military-themed clothes.
United24, a Ukrainian state-sponsored platform that raises funds amid the ongoing war, is extracting 100 T-shirts in Zelensky’s response. “I’ll wear my costume when the war ends.”
In Ukraine, the word “costume” is used as a translated term for lawsuits.
The raffles are open to those who donate more than $24 to Kiev’s defensive efforts.
“They emphasize the words of our president. This reminds us that there is a time and a place in everything,” reads the United24 online post.
“There are times when we can all wear suits. Now is the time to help Ukraine end this war. There are all the cards to support Ukraine – it’s time to play them. Donate to help Ukraine end this war and get something to wear in place of suits.”
During an oval office spat on Friday, Zelensky tried to convey to Trump the atrocities endured by his citizens in the conflict. Trump urged his counterparts to show he was more grateful for the American dollar that fueled the war.
“You shouldn’t tell us what we’re trying to feel. You’re not in a position to direct it. You don’t have a card now. Playing cards said in front of the camera.
“You’re gambling with World War II. What you’re doing is very rude to this country that supports you, this country.”
The president and members of his administration have called on Zelensky to apologise for the meeting.
Tensions have risen between Trump and Zelensky in recent weeks after the former called him a “no-election dictator” who did “a scary job.” Trump recently suggested that Ukraine would blame the start of a war with Russia.
On Monday, Trump, who has pressured Ukraine to sign an AA contract to provide Ukraine with access to Ukraine’s important mineral supply, suspended US military aid in Kiev.
