(Hill) – On Tuesday evening, President Trump revealed that the US arrested “top terrorists” involved in the 2021 bombing at the monastery gates at Afghanistan’s Kabul airport, killing at least 170 Afghan civilians.
“Tonight we are pleased to announce that we have just arrested a top terrorist responsible for that atrocity. He is now here to stand up to the swift sword of American justice,” Trump applauded in a joint speech to Congress.
Although Trump did not appoint who the suspect was, CNN reported that Mohammad Sharihula, who is said to be involved in suicide bombing plots during the US withdrawal from Afghanistan in August 2021, has been accused of providing material support for the terrorist attacks and has been transported to a conspiring US.
He thanked Pakistan for “helping us to arrest this monster.” This told CNN as the country reportedly acted on the CIA intelligence that led to Sharihula’s arrest.
Trump also said the development was a “significant day” for the families of affected people, noting that he spoke on the phone “to many parents and loved ones” of those killed.

According to a post from X, Attorney General Pam Bondy also said Tuesday night that “one of the directors of the abbey’s gate bombings would be gained US custody by the DOJ, FBI and CIA.
