Many of the best roguelites promise endless playthroughs and a certain amount of randomness in the gameplay loop. However, even the best games like Hades can start to get tiresome after you’ve gotten used to the enemies and skills over and over again. But no matter how many hours pass, I don’t feel like that. shape of dreamsif you’re looking for something to spend hundreds of hours on, you can’t miss this gem at a discounted price, especially after a major update.
I like League of Legends’ MOBA gameplay, but I’m not a big fan of competitive games. It’s not that I don’t like competitive games (although that’s true). Prefer the comfort of single player or co-op titles. Fortunately, Shape of Dreams nails that aspect, offering creative buildings that roguelite players will love, with mechanics that fall somewhere between those of Diablo and LoL. Is it like a blend of MOBARPGs?
Each run begins with you choosing one Traveler to play, each with their own starting talents and impressive skill tree. For example, Lacerta offers a hunting rifle for basic attacks, but also functions as a skill that fires large bullets or a heavy shotgun blast. However, you also gain some abilities while running. If that’s not enough, different essences affect your abilities, and each skill has three slots. If you don’t like your current builds, you can simply move them during gameplay. That’s right, you’re not locked into a playstyle once you choose it.
This is a huge piece of writing that I just wrote, but honestly, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Believe me or not, the “overwhelmingly positive” review on Steam also details how flexible the game’s build system is, and its sheer variety means that no single loadout is truly “the best of the best.” Every playthrough feels truly unique, and even when you feel like you’ve found the perfect formula, the bosses help keep you alert.
Despite being released in September 2025, it never caught the attention of most players, but Shape of Dreams is a game you don’t want to miss. It’s currently available on Loaded for just $13.19 / £9.99. It’s also perfect timing, considering it dropped a new update with mod support, a new game mode for veteran players, and many other features. This is basically an expanded level of content for free updates.
So if you’re like me and love pouring countless hours into perfecting your roguelite run – 50 hours in the first week of Hades 2 Early Access comes to mind – then Shape of Dreams is for you.
