I’ve been a fan of the best zombie games for as long as I can remember. I played Dead Rising when I was much younger than the recommended age and enjoyed Dying Light when I was 15 years old. While Dying Light subtly switches between frightening encounters at night and parkour adventures during the day, Dead Island 2 focuses on making the apocalypse fun. There is definitely a quarantine. Indeed, zombies have eaten most of the population, and the human population is dangerously dwindling. But why not enjoy the chaos that ensued?
Fifteen years have passed since the events of the first game, and Dead Island 2 features a slew of Slayers with varying abilities. Either way, the story is the same. After an infected person is on a plane and the military shoots down the plane, you soon realize that you are immune and attempt to escape from the quarantined city in hopes of finding a cure. It’s a fairly basic zombie-killing plot, just a vessel for the spectacular non-stop action that ensues after each cutscene.
Dead Island 2 is great on its own, but the Ultimate Edition bundles in all the extra goodies. Haus and SoLA offer two story-focused expansions. While Haus is a more traditional horror experience, SoLA takes things in an unexpected musical direction. However, there are still many zombies to watch out for, so you need to plan carefully. There are also plenty of skin packs and unique weapons for Slayers.
It’s a gory, gruesome, and frighteningly fun zombie game, and it’s no wonder it’s getting a sequel. So, if you haven’t played it yet, now is the perfect time to take a trip to Hell-A. At just $20.99 at Fanatical, Dead Island 2: Ultimate Edition is the lowest price ever, and along with the DLC, it also offers hours of undead-slaying fun.
