Dennis Boanga had goals and assists. Sergi Palencia scored on Saturday night to help the LAFC beat the San Jose earthquake 2-1.
Palencia scored in the 65th minute. The left-handed Banga cut back to avoid the defender and blasted the shot from the corner of the penalty area, paralyzed by goalkeeper Daniel de Souza Britt (known simply as “Daniel”), but Palencia slammed the rebound to open the scoring.
Olivier Giroud took a shot from the top of the penalty arc by diving Daniel on the counter attack, but Bouanga went 2-0 on the 86th and tapped a rebound in a nearby post.
Near the penalty spot, Josef Martinez calmly waited for the three defenders who were closed before tapping a pass to Christian Espinoza for his first touch finish, which earned San Jose (3-4-1) in five minutes of stoppage time.
LAFC (4-4-0) lost consecutive games and four of the past five.
